CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The forecasted high temperatures Saturday prompted Louisa and Gordonsville to call off their scheduled morning Fourth of July parades, though both towns anticipate still holding their firework shows.

“After careful consideration and consultation with emergency management and public safety officials, the Town of Louisa has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 4th parade,” Louisa announced on its website. “With extreme heat forecasted, the safety and well-being of parade participants, volunteers, first responders, and spectators must come first. Based on current conditions and recommendations from our public safety partners, canceling the parade is the most responsible choice.”

The town’s Festival at the Fairgrounds will be held, starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, including a fireworks display at sundown.

Gordonsville’s fireworks display is set to take place Friday at 9 p.m. at the Firemen’s Fairgrounds.

“After careful consideration of the forecast for extreme heat this week, I have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2026 Gordonsville Independence Day Parade to a later date this summer/fall,” Jill Grant, the organizer of Gordonsville’s event, announced in a social media post. “With temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees and this being the fifth consecutive day of extreme heat, I do not believe it is prudent to ask participants, volunteers, spectators, public safety personnel, and community members to spend extended periods outdoors under these conditions.”
