Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Jenna Conway notified the division of her decision in a letter Tuesday.

Former school board member Leslie Pryor and former co-chair of the board’s Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee Daisy Rojas both said Monday they had applied for the opening.

The Black Knights will host Western Albemarle and Fluvanna, giving the new team it’s first opportunities to play against other schools.

The board directed Acting Superintendent Dr. Chandra Hayes to develop 30-, 60- and 90-day plans for how ACPS can strengthen its transparency and compliance.

Supervisors Chair Ned Gallaway called scheduling a meeting with the School Board “premature” until the board has the chance to respond to more elements of the supervisor’s resolution.

The measure is on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election.

In a response to Thursday’s supervisors’ resolution, the School Board thanked that body and said it wants to work together to respond appropriately to challenges facing the division.

As the school division grapples with more controversy, the Board of Supervisors has called for it to strengthen its mandated reporting policies and increase transparency.
