CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Veterans Day was launch day for the Virginia 250 Passport.
The Virginia Museum of History & Culture, in partnership with Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, has organized and launched the passport.
This collaborative, statewide initiative encourages Virginians and visitors to commemorate America’s 250th by engaging with the Commonwealth’s foremost historic sites and museums.
The project is supported by the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission.
Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier, James Monroe’s Highland, the Louisa County Historical Society, and Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia outside Staunton are local sites on what is a “first of its kind statewide journey in celebration of America’s 250th”, according to the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
“Virginia has always been at the heart of America’s story,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin in a launch video.
“From the founding of our nation to the promise of its future, it all began right here in Virginia.”
There’ll be a total 250,000 available statewide.
Travelers can collect unique stamps while visiting each passport site.
Once they have secured a stamp in their passport, they can receive up to a 15% discount at future participating locations that charge admission.
Collecting at least five stamps makes them eligible to enter the prize drawing in December 2026 for yearlong museum memberships and cash awards up to $2,500.
