CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – University of Virginia football player Solomon Beebe, a transfer running back and kick returner from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was arrested on Monday on charges of animal cruelty. Beebe appeared in Albemarle County District Court on Thursday morning, according to online court records.
Beebe, a Montgomery, Ala. native, faces three counts of cruelty to animals stemming from one incident on Aug. 10 and two incidents on Aug. 12. All three are Class 1 misdemeanors.
Court records indicate Albemarle County seized the dog on Aug. 13.
The 5-foot-10, 199-pounder accounted for 1,222 all-purpose yards last season and was expected to be one of the Cavaliers’ primary kick returners this year. UVA opens the season Aug. 29 against North Carolina State.
A UVA Athletic Department spokesperson told Cville Right Now on Thursday afternoon, “The University does not comment on matters involving ongoing criminal proceedings or student records.” The spokesperson did not answer when asked Beebe’s status with the football program.
