CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Today is Day Four of four this week with some sort of National Weather Service advisory involving very hot weather. The high on the thermometer is slated for 95 with a heat index up to 107 sparking a heat advisory from 11 this morning until 7 this evening, and cooling centers are again open in the city and Albemarle County.
Albemarle County has two cooling centers, one in the western part, and the other in the southern part of the county. One is the Greenwood Community Center at 865 Greenwood Road near Crozet, and the Yancey Community Center at 7625 Porters Road in Esmont. and they are both open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. City cooling centers are open Monday and Tuesday at the Key Rec Center at 800 E. Market St. from noon to 9 p.m.; Central Branch downtown of the JMRL at 201 E. Market St. 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Tonsler Rec Center at 500 Cherry Ave from noon to 8 p.m.; and all University of Virginia libraries where you can click here for specific locations and hours.
The weather service says hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
