Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In a surprising turn of events, Virginia Cavaliers head basketball coach Tony Bennett has announced his departure, leaving fans and colleagues in shock. John Freeman, the voice of the Cavaliers, shared his reaction, saying, “I woke up this morning hoping that it wasn’t true, but it is.”
Freeman, who worked closely with Bennett, praised his legacy, noting, “He goes kind of on our Mount Rushmore of people who’ve impacted this town and this university.” Reflecting on Bennett’s unique qualities, Freeman added, “He has been our kind of moral guiding light of this university for a decade and a half.” Though Bennett’s departure has left many wondering “why right now?” Freeman emphasized, “We just all go from this feeling of shock and sadness to gratitude”. Bennett’s press conference at 11:00 AM today, Friday October 18th, will address the reasons for his decision.
