Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Les Sinclair, Communications and PR Manager for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, recently discussed the organization’s efforts to combat food insecurity in the region. Speaking about the growing demand, Sinclair highlighted, “We are on average serving about 148,000, or more than 148,000 guest visits every single month.” He emphasized the scale of this need by comparing it to a line of people 35 miles long going from UVA to Stanton.
Sinclair also addressed the specific challenges faced by vulnerable groups such as children and seniors. “Children… I think are about 33% of our guest visit population… and seniors make up about 20%.” He emphasized the importance of food to these populations, saying that “when you give food, you give health,” which ultimately benefits the entire community.
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is actively collaborating with healthcare providers and expanding its services, including SNAP assistance, to ensure that those in need can access nutritious food. Sinclair’s message is clear: “It’s imperative that folks hear this and then spread the word.”
