CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, along with nearly 400 other animal shelters across 44 states, has drastically reduced its adoption fees through the end of July. This initiative is funded by the BISSELL Pet Foundation as part of their “Empty the Shelters” adoption events.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization, aims to end pet homelessness. Cathy Bissell, Founder of the BISSELL Foundation, highlighted the current challenges shelters face, including evacuations due to wildfires and overcrowding leading to euthanasia of adoptable pets. She emphasized the importance of the “Empty the Shelters” event in making a significant impact through adoption. “BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Summer National Empty the Shelters event is a crucial opportunity for people to make a real difference in their community through adoption,” said Bissell.

Taylor Reinson, Director of Animal Operations at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting that discounted adoption fees will help community members welcome new pets into their homes. “Our goal is to find loving homes for all our healthy pets and clear our shelters, and we can’t wait to see many successful adoptions,” said Reinson.

During the event, the adoption fee for adult dogs and cats, six months or older, at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA will be reduced to $25. All animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
