CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia’s Aug. 29 football game against North Carolina State has been moved from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Scott Stadium, both schools announced on Wednesday.

The two schools are working with the NCAA and ESPN to confirm the game will be played on its originally scheduled date of Saturday, Aug. 29.

A source told Cville Right Now that UVA was in talks with NC State to move the game on Wednesday, with the potential for the game to be moved to another neutral site and Sept. 5 being considered as a possible alternative date.

The reason for the possible change was unclear. Virginia’s announcement of the move said the decision was made following extensive review with operational partners and international shareholders.

The Cavaliers were scheduled to play the Wolfpack at Nilton Santos Stadium in an international season opener, an ACC conference game that was set to be nationally televised. That game was scheduled for Week 0. UVA has a bye in Week 1.

Virginia’s current home opener is a Sept. 11 Friday night date with Norfolk State.

Fans who purchased tickets or travel packages through the “College Football Brasil” website will receive refunds.

Season ticket prices will not change with the addition of the NC State game, and all new and current season ticket holders will receive the game at no additional cost, a UVA spokesperson told Cville Right Now.
