CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Virginia women’s basketball got a double-double from forward Tabitha Amanze, using its height advantage to hold off Georgia Tech, 61-59, to remain undefeated in ACC play.
Amanze scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds for UVA, which also got 14 from guard Paris Clark and 12 points and six rebounds from guard Kymora Johnson to notch its seventh straight victory.
Despite a stubborn effort from the host Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Virginia used its height advantage to win their fifth ACC contest of the 2025-26.
The Cavaliers finished with a 45-35 rebounding edge and turned 17 offensive boards into 14 second-chance points. Virginia blocked 13 shots, led by six by Caitlin Weimar.
The Yellowjackets actually outrebounded the Hoos on the offensive glass in the first half and utilized 26 trips to the charity stripe, earning 22 points to keep the game close.
Virginia did not lead by more than nine points throughout the contest, despite Georgia Tech trailing from the second quarter on.  Reigning ACC player of the week Talayah Walker, had 11 points from the charity stripe.
Tabitha Amanze finished with another double-double, using her stellar physicality to notch five of Virginia’s 17 offensive rebounds, finishing with 12 total, and 11points.  Caitlin Weimar, Romi Levy, and Breona Hurd screened, picked, and boxed out the Jackets to allow the offense plenty of opportunities to stay in front in spite of the Hoos’ 19 turnovers.
Tech had a chance to take the lead on its final possession. After an illegal screen was called on Virginia, the Yellow Jackets inbounded the ball with 14 seconds remaining.  Fortunately for the Hoos, good defense and rebounding courtesy of Jillian Brown netted the victory.
The Syracuse Orange will visit John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
