CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – While showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon into the evening, a flood watch is not as extensive in central Virginia as it was Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Fluvanna and Louisa counties until 2 A.M. in the eastern parts of the Charlottesville area, but spares generally at Keswick and Gordonsville and points west. In Fluvanna and Louisa, the watch includes Lake Monticello, Palmyra, Bremo Bluff, Louisa, and Mineral where 2-to-6 inches of rain have fallen in the past 48 hours. Scattered storms are expected to develop afternoon into the early night, but the coverage is not expected to be what it was the past two nights. However, weather forecasters say a few spots could see 2-to-3 inches of rain, which could result in additional flash flooding.
Citizens should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings, and those in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
