Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – John Freeman, the familiar voice of the Cavaliers, shared insights on UVA’s basketball and football seasons, expressing optimism about the team’s direction under new basketball head coach Ron Sanchez. Freeman highlighted how the Cavaliers’ opening win, marking their 11th in the past 13 seasons, bodes well for NCAA Tournament hopes. 

Reflecting on Sanchez’s debut, Freeman described the shift as both promising and surreal, given former coach Tony Bennett’s lasting influence. “Just bizarre,” Freeman remarked noting that “there was always something… like we just hit a game-winning basket and Tony Bennett was coming out.” Although the team is still adjusting, Freeman praised Sanchez’s engaging personality and coaching talent.
