ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Last week, the Albemarle County School Board initiated capital budget planning for what officials expect will be a landmark year. Jack Jouett representative Kate Acuff highlighted the urgency of the board’s actions, noting that Albemarle County is set to open its first new schools in 24 years, with two major projects moving forward simultaneously.

Acuff announced that bids are anticipated next week for the Mountain View Upper Elementary School and High School Center #2, both intended to address a longstanding need for new educational facilities.

Despite the stagnant pace of new school construction, Albemarle’s student population continues to grow, leading to a reliance on approximately 80 portable classrooms this year alone. She says capital projects are expected to ease the strain on the district’s resources and provide expanded learning spaces for the community’s growing student body.
