CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville and Fluvanna County schools start classes Wednesday morning, and Charlottesville High School is aiming to get off to a much better start than last year’s violent and disruptive beginning. At the last school board meeting, new principal Justin Malone outlined safety measures starting this year learned from last year’s mishaps. He outlined enhanced exterior door access control not only using key fobs to control people coming in the building, but also leaving. There’s also a new E-Hall pass system where not only can the number of students be controlled converging in one hallway or area… but they can keep students apart who counselors have identified as not getting along with each other.

Weapons detection systems will also be present at ticketed events with anticipated attendance of 250 or more. There’s also an improved visitor management system at CHS and all other city schools that was used in some elementary schools last year.
