CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Albemarle and surrounding areas, effective from 10 a.m. Saturday, February 15, until 7 p.m. the same day. The advisory warns of mixed precipitation, including ice accumulations of one to two-tenths of an inch in higher elevations and snow and sleet accumulations of less than one inch in some areas.
Slippery road conditions are expected, particularly on bridges and overpasses. The highest ice accretions are forecasted for elevated surfaces. Precipitation may start as snow or sleet before transitioning to freezing rain by the afternoon. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see a glaze of ice, with more significant accumulations above 1,500 to 2,000 feet.
Drivers are advised to use caution and plan for hazardous travel conditions.
