CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The suspect police had barricaded himself inside a city home Thursday night into Friday morning had actually fled the scene before police ever arrived.
Kevin Johnson, 44, of Charlottesville, was arrested Friday and charged with domestic assault and battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm within a dwelling, reckless handling of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a release from the Charlottesville Police Department. Johnson was also served with a number of outstanding warrants, according to CPD.
Charlottesville Police responded to a report of a domestic incident at 754 Orangedale Ave. at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday, at which time they believed Johnson was barricaded inside the residence.
There was a large police presence at the scene, including the department’s Emergency Services Unit, which entered and secured the residence, but found Johnson was not inside.
He was taken into custody Friday at an undisclosed location in the city and is currently being held in custody, awaiting further proceedings.
Police recovered a gun and other information related to the domestic incident during a search of the residence.
