CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Tuesday night’s shooting near 12th Street and Rosser Avenue remains unsolved, but Charlottesville police have identified the victim.
Officers responding to calls of a 7:30 shooting arrived to find 31-year-old Deqwane Brown, who had been shot several times, inside a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
When asked if there were leads as he made his weekly Walk and Talk, this time in the 12th and Grady neighborhood, Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis kept his cards to the vest.
“We have not taken anyone into custody yet, but we’re making progress into the investigation, I can say that,” he said. “I can’t go too far into details.”
Kochis and his entourage were scheduled to go to another neighborhood, but decided to go where neighbors were dealing with the city’s first homicide of the year instead.
“We’ve really got to look at what happened here, we’re still doing that now, our detectives are working around the clock,” he said. “And we need to be out here speaking to folks in the community and letting them know that we’re here for them, to listen to them and hear what they want.”
