CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Virginia men’s basketball will host Kentucky on Dec. 2 as part of the 2026-27 SEC/ACC Challenge, the two conferences announced on Friday.

It will be Cavaliers’ first contest against Kentucky since the Maui Challenge in 2002, a 75-61 Virginia win.

The Wildcats lead the all-time series against UVA 6-3 but are only 2-2 against the ‘Hoos on the road.  The Cavaliers will host Kentucky for the first time since 1965, with this being the first time the Wildcats have played Virginia in John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia will look to continue its solid record in the challenge, with wins against Texas A&M in 2023-24 and Texas in 2025-26 as well as one defeat to Florida in 2024-25, the same year the Gators went on to win the National Championship.

Meanwhile, Virginia women’s basketball, in its first season under new head coach Aaron Roussell, will travel to take on Mississippi State in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 3.  The Cavaliers are 0-3 against the Bulldogs all-time.
