CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A lot of “talk” on social media about things not adding up, and now Charlottesville Police say charges are possible in Saturday evening’s car versus pedestrian incident at Vine and Nassau Streets. The Charlottesville Police Department first issued an alert of a car versus pedestrian accident on Facebook, with the intersection and surrounding areas closed for an investigation. Late Saturday night, the department used Facebook to report that 42-year-old Charlottesville resident Edward Fitzhugh Anderson, attacked a woman in a parked car. Then they posted the woman hit and killed Anderson while trying to flee the scene.
More than 100 people took to Facebook to comment on the report of Anderson’s death, with most saying the attack did not add up and many asking for answers. One comment questioned who police interviewed, and “several people in the neighborhood have a completely different account of what happened”. In the early hours of Monday morning, only a handful had responded to Sunday night’s word of possible charges.
Late Sunday night, however, the department posted an update. Following a thorough investigation, it said that CPD will turn the case over to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for a decision on any potential charges.
