CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office has requested help in locating a person of interest in the Monday morning discovery of a shooting victim at the main entrance for the Lake Monticello subdivision.

Deputies responding to a 2:10 a.m. call arrived to find Aloys Hopfensperger of Palmyra suffering from a gunshot injury with additional indications of an assault. Rescue personnel transported the victim to the hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition.

Further investigation has revealed that a vehicle entered the Lake Monticello subdivision near the Slice Gate and drove to the main gate security station, where the victim was left. The vehicle has been identified as a black, newer-model Hyundai Palisade with black wheels, driven by an individual identified as Shirley Marie Brown of Palmyra. The department says in a news release that the two are known to each other.

Sheriff’s investigators located the black Hyundai Palisade registered to Shirley Marie Brown at a dwelling located in the Troy area of Fluvanna County, which is believed to be the scene of the shooting. Since the incident, Shirley Brown has fled and is actively avoiding law enforcement. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
