CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Cheryl V. Higgins has sentenced Orlando Allen Jr. to 43 years in prison for the March 4, 2023 murder of Justice Kegan Kilel at the Sunshine MiniMart. Twenty years of the sentence were suspended, leaving an active sentence of 23 years. The sentencing follows the case of Nasir Floyd McGhee in June, who was also involved in the incident. McGhee was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
McGhee and Allen entered the Sunshine MiniMart and assaulted 20-year-old Justice Kilel, a Gordonsville resident and Fork Union graduate. During the assault, Kilel was shot and killed.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania stated, “The level of brutality and violence exhibited by the Defendant in this case warranted the significant sentence imposed by the Court. The Commonwealth will continue to hold accountable those individuals who use firearms to perpetuate violence in our community.”
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nina-Alice Antony.
