ORANGE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Orange County woman has been sentenced to five years for stalking a person protected by a protective order for the second time.

In late 2022, Josephine Currier, 58, started approaching friends and family of the 72-year-old victim, seeking the woman’s whereabouts.  Ultimately, in early 2023, Currier showed up at the victim’s residence with a machete threatening to kill her.  She was arrested and ultimately convicted of stalking.  Following her release, she attempted to enter the woman’s gated community multiple times and told people how she wanted to harm the victim.  She also lurked just outside of the security gate when her entrance was denied.  The defendant continued her aggressive behavior after her second conviction by stating in open court she would kill the victim.

Senior Assistant Commonweath’s Attorney Alex Goodman, who prosecuted the case said: “We are thankful the victim will sleep in peace tonight and we hope this case sends a message to not stalk, threaten, or harm the citizens of Lousia County.”

Josephine Currier remains in custody in the Central Virginia Regional Jail.  While stalking is generally a misdemeanor, the charges in this case were felonies because Currier had a prior stalking conviction, and the victim had a protective order against Currier at the time of the offense.
