HARRISONBURG (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Harrisonburg Police have arrested an Augusta County woman wanted for murder in Nelson County after a shelter-in-place order was issued in the city around 4 Tuesday afternoon. 22-year-old Katelynn Ann Hipes is charged with 2nd-degree murder in the shooting death of 48-year old Kevin Scott Small found dead Friday in his Shipman home.
HPD says they received information from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office that Hipes, who was wanted in connection with the early morning homicide of Small, may be in the Harrisonburg area. Officers, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Task Force, were able to identify her location at a residence on Lee Avenue in Harrisonburg, and HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division then obtained a search warrant for the address. Just after 4 P.M. HPD’s S.W.A.T. team executed the search warrant at the residence and took Hipes into custody without incident.
