CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – When a man broke into a Culpeper home Monday, smashing windows with a pipe and abducting a woman, the homeowner attempted to defend his property by wielding a sword, according to the Culpeper Sheriffs Department.
A suspect, Jesse Harris, fled the scene at 1900 block of Edwards Shop Road and went into nearby woods where he was tracked by multiple law enforcement agencies, assisted by drones and K-9s, before being apprehended “several hours” later in an area off of Kipps Lane.
“Thankfully this ended peacefully with very little injuries,” Culpeper sheriff T.W. Chilton said in a statement. “It started with a pipe and a sword, thats wild on its own. This could have easily been deadly.”
Harris has been charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony while armed with a deadly weapon, abduction by force, threats to kill over an airway and four counts of destruction of property.
He is being held at Culpeper County Jail without bond.
The homeowner reported that Harris “had broken into his house with some type of pipe. The homeowner armed himself with a sword. The homeowner advised that Harris began breaking windows on the house then dragged a female from the residence,” according to the sheriff’s release.
The female victim was known to Harris, the sheriff’s office stated.
