RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A King Family Vineyards wine made in Crozet is the recipient of the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup presented at the Virginia Wine Expo this past weekend in Richmond. The award goes to King Family’s 2019 Meritage, which is a blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. In its 42nd year, the competition received 752 entries from over 135 Virginia wineries, cideries and meaderies. This year marks the fourth time the award has been given to King Family Vineyards, claiming the top-honor in 2004, 2010 and 2018.
Also in the Governor’s Cup Case from the Monticello Wine Trail — which are the 12 top-scoring wines — are Afton Mountain’s 2019 T, Barboursville’s 2019 Paxxito, Hark’s 2019 Spark, Michael Shaps’ 2020 L Scott, and Mountain and Vine’s 2022 Chardonnay.
