CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): Many hoped earlier this week that Virginia’s drought conditions would come to an end after rain from tropical storm Debby fell on the state last week. The U.S. drought monitor has been monitoring rainfall totals throughout this week, and unfortunately several counties in Virginia remain in drought.
Drought advisories have been lifted for the following regions:
- Central Virginia: Albemarle, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, and Nelson counties, as well as Charlottesville, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Lynchburg, and Petersburg.
- Northern Piedmont: Culpeper, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Spotsylvania, and Stafford counties.
Several regions remain in drought:
- Shenandoah Region: Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren, and Clarke counties are still experiencing severe drought.
- Big Sandy Region: Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise counties remain under drought watch.
