FLUVANNA, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A woman incarcerated at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women is reportedly suffering from severe medical issues without receiving proper treatment. According to her lawyer, John Kiyonaga, Jennifer Emmi, a former Colorado attorney, was transferred to Virginia despite having no connections to the state and has faced deteriorating health conditions since her transfer. Kiyonaga states that Emmi has serious medical conditions and is not receiving the necessary treatment.

Kiyonaga stated that Emmi suffers from several autoimmune disorders, including lupus and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, and has reportedly not received necessary treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin therapy (IVIG).

Kiyonaga has appealed to both the Virginia Attorney General and the Governor of Colorado for intervention. “Her health has declined precipitously since she’s gone into confinement, and most dramatically come to Virginia,” Kiyonaga explained.

Emmi, who has served about a third of her sentence, experienced a severe heart attack that went undiagnosed by the prison, according to Kiyonaga. He stresses the urgency of her situation, advocating for her release to receive proper medical care.

We’ve reached out to the Virginia Attorney General to see if he has any plan to intervene.
