CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With significant progress made on the hiring front, Charlottesville Police announce they will resume response next month to certain calls for service that were suspended in late 2021 due to staffing shortages. In late 2021, the Charlottesville Police Department suspended its response to calls for service that were not deemed an “emergency”… such as credit card fraud, larcenies, and vandalism. The decision was made in response to what was described as a “staffing emergency.” Over the last 16 months, the police department has made significant strides in filling sworn vacancies, which now allows police to respond to non-emergency calls for service.

Effective June 1, 2024, Officers will resume their response to the following non-emergency incidents in person:

Credit card fraud
False Pretense
Impersonation
Larceny from buildings
Larceny from Vehicles
Larceny of vehicle parts
Vandalism
Lost property
