CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – On July 4, 2024, at 1:30 PM, Charlottesville Police officers responded to a welfare check at 301 Monte Vista Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers met with a family member of the residents. Inside the home, they discovered 81-year-old Brenda Lois Lambert deceased from a gunshot wound. Additionally, 85-year-old James Marvin Shea, Jr. was found with serious injuries. Police say evidence suggests the incident was a planned suicide by the couple.

Mrs. Lambert was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mr. Shea was transported to UVA Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

CPD Detectives are in contact with the family and the Commonwealth Attorney. They say the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary evidence supports the suicide pact theory.

No further details are being released, and there is no threat to the community.
