CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Albemarle County has closed all of its swimming beaches for Friday in light of extremely hazardous air quality throughout the day.  

 “The closure is necessary to protect the health and safety of visitors and staff.” A county release reads. 

 The National Weather Service has issued a Code Red air quality alert for the area, and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has stated that conditions around the City of Richmond (which Albemarle County sits in) have reached Code Purple range.  Code Purple denotes hazardous conditions in the air for healthy people as well as those with sensitive health conditions, like diseases of the heart and lungs.   

Albemarle has stated the beaches will reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. 

ACAC also announced Friday morning that its Adventure Central Waterpark will be closed Friday at 11 a.m.

“The safety of our members, guests, and staff is our top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as they become available.” ACAC stated in a release.
