Update June 12 4:00 pm CST

Adam here, as you can see in the pics above we arrived earlier today and got a chance to take in the glory of Charles Schwab Field here in Omaha. This was an unreal experience for me to be up close and personal at a place I’ve seen countless times on TV.

While the team was at practice, I went on a little walk around the city down to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge which spans the Missouri River. Had to do what’s called “bobbing” where you stand across the Nebraska-Iowa state line on the bridge.

You will probably see this bridge featured in an least one shot on a broadcast so keep an eye out!

That’s all for today! Keep checking this story for more updates from my time in Omaha!

Update June 13 7:00 pm CST

Adam back with another update, although not much to say from today. Today was practice day for the team so I spent the day exploring the city a little more. The team hotel is right in the heart of what’s called the Old Market which is pretty much the downtown area. There are a ton of shops and restaurants around, a lot like the Downtown Mall.

Enjoyed some delicious pizza from Orsi’s for dinner.

Spent time prepping for the Heels tomorrow as well. Make sure you listen in to the action tomorrow at 2 pm on WINA! See you again from Charles Schwab Field!

Update June 14 4:30 pm CST

Finally made it to Gameday! The view from the booth was incredible, I felt like an actual professional out there.

Obviously that smile didn’t last. Heartbreaker for the ‘Hoos today as Carolina walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning and won 3-2. The bats just didn’t have it in them today, and Brian O’Connor would say as much in his postgame press conference. The loss makes things really tough for Virginia. Only 4 teams in MCWS history have ever lost the first game and come back to win the title. Virginia has a tough road ahead, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s these Cavaliers. Looking forward to taking in some more baseball tonight and tomorrow before UVA plays again Sunday at 2. Stay tuned for more updates in the mean time!

Update June 16 6:30 pm CST

Day 6 here in Omaha and it has been quite a time! Yesterday I made my way back to Charles Schwab Field to take in some baseball as a neutral observer.

Another game another walkoff as Kentucky beat NC State with a homer in the bottom of the tenth. I watched the last bit at a famous local spot called Blatt Beer and Table. My baseball buddy Jason told me I had to get a Blatt Burger so I did and it was great. Planned on sticking around to watch the second game between Texas A&M and Florida but the weather got a little nasty and delayed the start. So we popped into a few more local spots to kill time and I made it into Rocco’s just outside the stadium. It’s a very famous sports bar that runs a competition each year to see which fanbase buys the most Jell-O shots over the course of the tournament.

That’s leaderboard. As you might be able to see the Virginia fanbase was not doing to0 hot. (I will not confirm nor deny if I made a contribution to the Cavalier cause.)

The Aggies and Gators finally got started around 10:15 so we watched another close game that ended right around 1:30 local time. It was another one run game that ended in a 3-2 Texas A&M victory.

It was gameday again today, and as I’m sure you heard things did not go well for the ‘Hoos. Florida State led most of the game, and what little offense Virginia could muster came too late to make a real difference. Unfortunately, Virginia just didn’t get enough hits when it mattered over 2 games and they’re headed home. It was a great season for O’Connor and the boys, though, and they gave me a season I’ll never forget. My first time in Omaha was unforgettable and I can only hope that I’ll be lucky enough to come back some day. I have a feeling as long as Brian O’Connor is in charge of Virginia baseball, there’s a good chance I will. I hope you enjoyed following along! Adam Hawes signing off from the College World Series! Go Hoos!
