CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – Charlottesville High School graduate and baseball pitcher, Aidan Peters, has passed away.

He had been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, 2021. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, it was determined last month that his cancer was not curable, and he was placed in hospice.

The 18-year-old, who loved baseball but whose dream was to study environmental science and work for the National Park Service, died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville.

Aidan Patrick Peters of Charlottesville, Va., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, surrounded in love and laughter by family and friends, after a courageous 22-month battle with Ewing Sarcoma. He was 18 years old.

Aidan was born on January 25, 2005 to Adam and Rebecca Peters. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved sister, Fiona, grandmother, Ramona Peters of Fernandina Beach, Fla., grandfather, Joseph Tamony (Joyce Morden), of Port Angeles, Wash., aunts Ellen Funk and Laura Peters (Patrick Gordon) of Chicago, Ill., uncles Mark Peters (Mary Peters), of Chicago, Ill., Mike Tamony of Portsmouth, Va., and Bill Tamony of Buxton, N.C., beloved great aunt, Virginia Peters of Chicago, Ill., as well as his dearest cousins and countless friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sandra Tamony, and his grandfather, George Peters.

Aidan loved his family and friends, playing baseball, and playing with his dog, Mylo. He loved music and film. He wanted to study environmental science in college and work for the National Park Service.

A celebration of Aidan’s life will be on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville with the Reverend Colleen Swingle-Titus of Park Street Christian Church presiding. Visitation and viewing will be 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and a luncheon will be afterwards in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, Aidan’s Family & Friends are raising funds to put lights at the Central Little League baseball diamonds at Pen Park in honor of Aidan. Donations can be made out to Black Knights Athletic Club (memo line: Aidan’s Lights) and mailed to Llezelle Dugger at 428 2nd Street NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
