Robert “Bob” John Schneller, 73, of Troy, Virginia, died on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
He was born on April 29, 1950, to Robert and Dolores Schneller in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
With a love of race cars and mechanics instilled from a young age, Bob had a mind and curiosity for how things worked. Naturally resourceful and good with his hands but unsure of the career path he wanted to take in life, at the age of 20, he joined the United States Coast Guard as a boatswain mate, the jack of all trades on a ship. Stationed in Buffalo, New York, he actively served to protect our country’s waters during the end of the Vietnam War from 1970-1974 and was transferred to the reserves from 1974-1976.
Afterwards, Bob attended Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York, where he studied business and finance for two years. He proudly worked in the field as a broker and financial advisor for over forty-five years. He devoted the majority of his career to Wells Fargo Advisors in Charlottesville, Virginia (1999-2024), where he served as Senior Vice President of Investments. Bob truly loved what he did. As many may recall, he volunteered as the newscaster for the lunchtime business report on Channel NBC 29 for nearly thirty years.
He lived an eclectic life with many passions, including cars/racing, golf, fishing, chess, karate, photography, animals, and the water, to name a few. Vacationing in the Outer Banks, North Carolina, for almost 50 years, the beach was Bob’s sanctuary. With a soft spot for animals, he cared for many cats, dogs and assorted creatures throughout his life; he was even known to (carefully) bring his betta fish with him on vacation to the OBX! Most recently, he adopted Anabella, a cheerful, playful little Dachshund who brought immense joy and unwavering companionship to him in his final days.
Bob was known and loved by many; he made an impression anywhere he went. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone — he loved to talk about cars or one of his many hobbies, tell fascinating stories from his youth, share his love of all sports, offer his expansive taste in music that never failed to surprise, or the random verifiable fun fact — Bob could tell some stories. But he was perhaps best known for his quintessential dad jokes, like this one: Knock knock. Who’s there? Not Dad. He’s Dead!
He is preceded in death by his son, Eric Schneller, of Scottsville, Virginia.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Matthews and Kimberly Schneller, both of Earlysville, Virginia; his sister, Dianne (Mike) Besic, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; his nephew, Michael Besic, of Lombard, Illinois; and his niece, Bridgett Silva and her son, Mason, of Fairhope, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Kayla Schneller, Anthony Schneller, and Shepherd Matthews.
