CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Mayor Lloyd Snook has announced City Council’s likely choice for new City Manager is current Deputy City Manager for Operations Sam Sanders. He says Council will take a vote Monday night where they are expected to approve the selection. Snook says Sanders has experience with housing and other social programs, and making those programs work.
“When he came to Charlottesville, he was put in charge of departments and divisions dealing with areas like housing, transit, public works, planning, zoning. In some of those departments he found disfunction… he has quietly and effectively dealt with those dysfunctional areas.”
Snook referenced someone who called Sanders “a humble problem solver”.
Sanders said, “I am thankful for the opportunity to be the next City Manager of Charlottesville. It’s a big job and I’m ready to give it my all.”
“I believe I bring a unique perspective having been in the trenches here the last two years, learning and trying to understand what makes this place tick.”
“I have been able to settle into what I’ve learned, and I remain here because I really see ways in which I can contribute.”
Council will vote on his contract Monday night. He says he now begins a two-week transition with interim City Manager Michael Rogers.
