CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – 8AM UPDATED TO INCLUDE ACCUWEATHER’S PREDICTION FOR THE 9AM SATURDAY AND SUNDAY LAWN WALKS:
After severe storms wreaked havoc in Houston overnight Thursday, we’ll have our own weather challenges heading into the weekend that are far from ideal for Walking the Lawn. Weather forecasters have us under a flood watch from 3 this afternoon until 2 Saturday morning with slow-moving storms this afternoon into the overnight expected to deliver rainfall off 1-3 inches, with localized amounts up to 4. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
Weather could be a concern for Saturday and Sunday morning’s Walkings of the Lawn, but Accuweather’s Jeff Nordeen predicts a break for the Saturday morning event… and maybe scattered showers Sunday. Nordeen says the bulk of the rain Friday night into Saturday morning ends well before the 9am walk. We get a pause in rain until about noon when showers and storms move back in. And Sunday could see scattered showers in the morning for that 9am walk.
