BLACKSBURG, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia Tech head women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks is headed to Kentucky. Virginia Tech announced Brooks’ intentions in a Tuesday afternoon release saying an immediate national search for a new head coach has begun. Brooks is a Waynesboro native who accepted the Hokies’ job in 2016. He 180-82 record in Blacksburg with the 2022-23 season being historic with a school record 31 wins and a Final Four appearance where they lost to soon-national champion LSU in the semifinals.

VT Athletics Director Whit Babcock says they hired Brooks in 2016, after a very successful run at James Madison University where he was 337-121 in 14 seasons there, “with the intent of revitalizing our women’s basketball program”.
“Needless to say, Kenny, his staff, and student-athletes created a culture of excellence on and off the court.”

The Hokies won the regular season ACC title again this past season, but lost star post player Elizabeth Kitley to a torn ACL in the last game of their regular season at JPJ against UVA, then lost in the ACC Tournament semifinals to eventual tournament champion Notre Dame. Tech then lost Sunday in the NCAA Tournament round-of-32 to Baylor.
