CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Fluvanna County Sheriffs said Monday that a kayak found washed up near the James and Hardware Rivers last week is not believed to have been occupied.
“At this point, we believe it was just a wayward kayak that floated away,” Maj. David Wells, Fluvanna Chief Deputy, told Cville Right Now.
The Fluvanna County Fire Department posted on social media on Tuesday asking the public for information after a green kayak was located near the 1900 block of Hardware Rd. with evidence that suggested the kayak had been in use that day. Deflated inner tubes were also found near the 1700 block of Hardware Rd., according to FCFD.
FCFD, along with Water Rescue Teams, Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, and the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office initiated a search of both the Hardware and James Rivers.
But now, authorities do not believe anyone was in danger.
