CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Democratic Congressman Tom Perriello raised more money in December than Republican incumbent John McGuire did in the final three months of 2025, according to Federal Election Commission disclosures released over the weekend.
“I’m blown away by this outpouring of support from donors, volunteers, and community leaders across the 5th District,” Perriello said in a statement. “Voters clearly want to send new leaders to Congress who will focus on bringing down costs, pushing up paychecks, and fighting for hardworking Virginians.”
Perriello, a Charlottesville native, also raised more than triple the amount brought in by his challenger for the Democratic nomination, Albemarle County Board of Supervisors member Mike Pruitt.
Perriello, who declared his candidacy for the 5th District seat – a post he was the last Democrat to hold when he was represented the district from 2009-11 – raised $712,825.09 in December. He ended the year with $676,616.07 cash on hand, according to the FEC disclosure.
McGuire, a Richmond native who unseated Republican Bob Good in a 2024 primary, then defeated Democrat Gloria Witt in the general election, raised $183,493.95 from Oct-Dec., and entered the new year with $314,375.39 cash on hand.
Pruitt, who represents the Scottsville District and declared for the race in July, before Perriello entered, raised $223,585.11 from Oct.-Dec. and had $138,621.73 cash on hand when January began.
