CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A 70-year-old Bumpass man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery in the Town of Mineral that occurred Saturday, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Roger Lee Mallory faces four felony chargers, including robbery with a firearm, after police said he attempted to rob the Mineral Express Lane at gunpoint. Mallory, who was taken into custody Monday at his home, is also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and concealing his identity/wearing a mask in public, all felonies, and brandishing a firearm, driving without a license and possession of a stolen license plate, all misdemeanors.
He is being held without bail at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, a suspect entered the Mineral Express Lane, demanded money and showed a gun, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. He left without getting any money, exiting when a customer entered the business. The suspect then fled in a silver, early-2000s Lincoln Continental with stolen license plates.
On Sunday, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office released security images of a suspect and asked the public for help identifying him. Mallory was quickly identified.
“Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community—through shared posts, phone calls, and tips—the suspect involved in this incident has been successfully identified,” a release said. “This case is a strong reminder that community policing truly takes a community, and your willingness to stay alert and get involved made a real difference.”
