CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville will join the growing list of cities nationwide protesting in response to the shooting death of a 37-year-old mother of three on Wednesday in Minnesota, killed by an ICE agent.

At 2 p.m. Sunday demonstrators will gather at at Market Street Park for a protest organized by Indivisible Charlottesville.

“Together, we demand that our local, state, and national elected officials do everything in their power to stop being complicit with this corrupt and authoritarian administration, and stand up for our communities,” a statement from event organizers said. “That starts with a public commitment to abolish ICE, to prosecute all agents who commit criminal acts, and to use all legal powers and authorities to refuse cooperation with federal immigration agencies.”

Good, a 2020 Old Dominion University graduate, was killed Wednesday when an ICE agent fired three shots into the vehicle she was driving in a suburban neighborhood where the immigration officers were carrying out an operation. Videos of the incident show the agent circling Good’s vehicle. She appears to speak kindly to him, saying “That’s fine, I’m not mad at you,” before turning her vehicle away from where he’s standing. Ross then fires a shot through the front window and two more through the driver’s side window, killing Good.

On one video, reportedly taken by the agent himself, Ross can be heard calling Good a “f—— b—-,” after shooting her.

The Trump administration and the Department of Homeland Security have defended the shooting, claiming the agent feared for his safety and the safety of other ICE agents in the area.

Her death, combined with another Border Patrol shooting in Portland, Ore., has spurred protests in cities across the country.

“ICE and CBP brutality is not an aberration,” according to a statement from the national Indivisible organization. “It is the predictable result of an authoritarian regime that has empowered federal agents to occupy neighborhoods, target immigrant communities, and operate with impunity.”
