CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Virginia women’s basketball remained undefeated in ACC play, outlasting Florida State in double-overtime, 91-87, Sunday at the Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
Kymora Johnson narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.
Her backcourt-mate, Paris Clark, added 22 points, eight boards and four assists.
Caitlin Weimar led Virginia (12-3, 4-0 ACC) in rebounds off the bench with 11, including several key ones in the overtime periods.
After a 31-point first quarter the Hoos looked strong going into halftime. But there were more surprises to come.
The Seminoles came out swinging in the second half, going on a pair of 7-0 runs in the third quarter.
Sole Williams led FSU with 28 points and five rebounds. Her backcourt-mate, Amaya Bonner, also proved potent for Florida State with 15 points and five assists.
The third quarter has proved to be a thorn in the side of the Hoos all-season long. However, going into the fourth quarter, the Hoos retained the momentum by a narrow margin.
The Seminoles outscored Virginia in the second half, with a furious rally in the final five minutes to force overtime.
Williams scored a layup with six seconds to play to tie the game at 67-67 and send it into overtime.
It took double overtime to settle the contest, but Virginia’s guards came up big in the final minute, with Johnson’s final made free throw ending the game at 91-87.
The Hoos will travel to Atlanta on Thursday to face Georgia Tech at 7 p.m.
