CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A boil water advisory for a portion of northern Albemarle County, caused by a Wednesday water main break, remains in place Friday, according to the Albemarle County Service Authority.
The impacted area includes the Route 29 North area between Lewis and Clark Drive and the North Fork Rivanna River Bridge. Much of that area experienced loss of service or low water pressure Wednesday morning, the ACSA and Rivanna Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority worked into the night Wednesday to repair the break.
By 8:30 p.m. Wednesday full service had returned but the boil water advisory remains in place as authorities test the water quality. In order to lift the advisory, the Virginia Department of Health requires two consecutive negative tests. The first sample was collected Thursday morning and a second was taken Thursday afternoon.
If both come back negative, the advisory could be lifted Friday.
Customers in the affected area are advised to boil any tap water used for drinking or cooking, or substitute bottled water until the advisory is lifted.
