CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) –  It was a moment of Scott Stadium ecstasy for Virginia football, as the Hoos downed in-state rival Virginia Tech 27-7 to advance to the 2025 ACC Championship Game in Charlotte, N.C.  Their opponent’s in the title game will be Duke, a squad the Hoos have already dispatched by a score of 34-17 back on Nov. 15.

Volleyball: A fraught season for the volleyball team concluded last week. First, the Cavaliers welcomed No. 19 North Carolina to Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon.  The Tar Heels swept off the Hoos in just three sets to wrap up UVA’s home slate.  The Hoos then battled Boston College in Chestnut Hill to wrap up the year, and after going down in set one, 27-25, they battled back to win three sets in a row to end the season on a high note, closing with thirteen wins and seventeen losses.   

Basketball: Men’s basketball came back from Thanksgiving Break to treat the John Paul Jones Arena crowd to an authoritative victory over Queens, 94-69.  Meanwhile, women’s basketball headed to Destin, Florida, for the Emerald Coast Classic last week. During the tournament, the Hoos beat Northwestern State 69-48, before falling to Nebraska 91-82 in the final.  The Hoos got back to winning ways quickly with a victory on Sunday against Maryland Eastern Shore, 92-59.  This week marks the SEC/ACC Challenge for both teams.  Women’s basketball will travel to Nashville to face Vanderbilt on Wednesday night; tip-off is at 5 p.m. Men’s basketball will be in Austin that same day to battle against the Texas Longhorns starting at 9:15 p.m.  The men’s team will then travel to Charlotte to face Dayton on Saturday, while the women’s team travels to Chestnut Hill for a noon tip against Boston College on Sunday. 

More action: Virginia wrestling took on Bloomsburg in a Saturday night dual and beat them handily, 41-0.  Next, Steve Garland’s squad heads to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania this Sunday to battle Bridgeport and East Stroudsburg Universities in two dual meets.  The indoor track season also gets underway, as the track and field team heads to Lynchburg on Thursday for the Liberty Kickoff.  Lastly, the squash teams will both host Cornell and Harvard on Grounds Friday and Saturday.
