CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Albemarle High School student died in a recent car accident, the county school division announced in an email to parents Sunday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today. Over the weekend, we learned that one of our Albemarle High School students tragically lost their life in a car accident,” ACPS superintendent Matthew Haas wrote in the letter. “There is no doubt that our student body and staff may struggle learning of the loss of a fellow student, classmate, and friend, but please know that we are here to support you in any way we can.”

No further details were available about the student or the fatal wreck.

“I have directed staff to provide grief counselors in addition to our regular counseling services at Albemarle High School,” Haas wrote. “Additionally, our counselors in every school across the division have been alerted to the news and are prepared to provide service to any of our students and staff who need support processing and managing the grief they may experience.”
