CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris, who suffered a left shoulder injury in the third quarter of the Cavaliers’ season-opening win over Coastal Carolina, has been cleared and is expected to start when the team plays at North Carolina State on Saturday.

Morris, the transfer from North Texas, practiced fully on Monday, UVA coach Tony Elliott said during his weekly press conference Tuesday.

“My expectation is to play his tail off. We’re going to need him,” Elliott said.

Morris was 19 for 27 for 264 yards and two scores in his UVA debut, the Cavaliers’ 48-7 dismantling of the Chanticleers, before getting hurt.

“He showed us maturity,” Elliott said. “It took us a couple of drives to settle in. Once he got settled, he was able to distribute the ball.”

With Virginia ahead 28-0, Morris was injured after running for 28 yards. He turned a short run into a dash for the end zone, though Elliott said player and coach both agreed it would have been better to slide.

“Love to see him go down feet first right there. But that’s what you love about him. He’s a competitor.”

Morris left the game and did not return. He spent the fourth quarter on the sideline in street clothes, his shoulder heavily wrapped with ice.

Elliott said linebacker Kam Robinson is expected back at practice next week and could be ready to play against Stanford on Sept. 20.
