VERONA, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — After a national search, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is welcoming a new CEO.
Kari Jorgensen Diener brings over 25 years of experience to the table from all over the world. From rural South Sudan to refugee programs in Jordan and social service agencies in the United States, she has led efforts to end poverty, strengthen food security, and build community resilience in many diverse settings.
In a release, Jorgensen Diener said “throughout my career, my work has focused on forging partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders to prevent and combat poverty. Central to that has always been helping people leverage their own strengths and helping communities build resilience and self-reliance.”
After about 15 years abroad, Kari and her family settled in Harrisonburg 4 years ago, where she has already become enamored with the community and introduced to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Chair of the Board of Directors of the Food Bank, Kim Blosser says they have found a leader who truly embodies our values and is committed to ensuring equitable access to nutritious food. “We look forward to working alongside her—and our community partners—as we continue our focus on nourishing food and good health for everyone, every day,” she said.
