CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) It was a tough day for UVA tennis Monday on the court at Wimbledon, but a great one off-court.

10th-seed Emma Navarro’s run at the All England Club is over in the Round of 16 as she lost to No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. She and Danielle Collins, who was defeated Saturday at Wimbledon, now set their sights on the U.S. Open next month.

UVA tennis did post some positive news Monday off the court as women’s tennis has placed eight athletes on the All-ACC Academic team, and the men added four more.

For the women, graduate student Sara Ziodato and senior Elaine Chervinsky were named to the team for the fourth time in their Cavalier careers. Senior Melodie Collard and junior Annabelle Xu made the team for the third time. Junior Meggie Navarro, Emma’s sister, earned her second straight honor. This is the first time freshmen Martina Genis Salas, Isabelle Lacy, and sophomore Blanca Pico Navarro have been named to the team.

For the men, Graduate student James Hopper and sophomore Dylan Dietrich were named to the team for the second straight year. Freshmen Rafael Jódar and Keegan Rice made the team for the first time.

Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career.
In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests. Click here for the full report on the women and click here for the men.
