Waynesboro, VA (cvillerightnow.com): After two defeats to begin the year, the 2024 Valley League Baseball Champion Charlottesville Tom Sox are out of the blocks with their first win of the year.  The Sox hit the road to battle the Waynesboro Generals yesterday evening, and despite going down early once again, the bats came alive to help the bullpen keep the game close and ultimately get the squad over the hump in a thrilling 10-9 finish.

C’Ville starter Tim Lawson was knocked out early by the Waynesboro bats and forced Randy Tomlin to go to his bullpen in a 2-2 game in the second inning.

Waynesboro jumped all over the first few arms that trotted out to face them, and the sixth inning ended 9-4 in favor of the home team.  The Sox needed a big inning, and they got one in the eighth, a frame that saw nine men come to the plate.  Three straight walks drawn by Jesus Cesari, Virginia Cavalier Jackson Sirois, and Arizona State Sun Devil Gian De Castro loaded the bases.  Patrick Niehus of Gardener-Webb found the barrel of the bat and hammered the ball into left to clear the bases with a stand-up double.

Hudson Lutterman of the VT Hokies smacked Niehus home, and two straight RBI walks brought home the last two runs to complete the comeback for the Sox.  Jason Ban of Davidson took the mound for C-Ville to close the game and slam the door he did.  The Sox take the field again this evening at 7:00pm from the friendly confines of CHO Airport Field at Charlottesville High School.
