Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): This is the final Wahoo Rundown of the 2024-25 Season!  Don’t worry, we’ll be back for Football in August and will be popping in with Wahoo Updates from Time to Time, but with regularly scheduled action at its end for the school year, the Rundown will resume after a break.

As for this edition, it is twinged with the sad news that has dominated the Athletics news around grounds.  Brian O’Connor is leaving his head coaching position at Virginia and has chosen to lead the Mississippi State Bulldogs beginning in the 2025-26 Baseball Season.  Mike Barber has an all-encompassing article breaking the news with the latest information on the situation, you can find it HERE.  The Baseball program has many questions that will need to be answered over the course of the summer, and the next question will be which of the Hoos’ draft-eligible players will declare and who will stay behind or look elsewhere for a roster spot.

It was a stellar season for the Virginia Men’s Golf Team; their run in NCAA Championship Play was brought to an end on Wednesday evening following their defeat to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the NCAA Championship Match.  There is a full report on the Final HERE, but it was still a proud season for the Men’s team, who has never made a championship final in its history.  Here’s hoping there will be more where that came from.

Virginia Rowing finished second in the ACC Championships earlier this month, and earned a chance to head to West Windsor, New Jersey, to compete in the NCAA Championship Regatta.  As team, they finished 10th by virtue of a tiebreaker behind the California Golden Bears.  Their best finish of the boats entered was a second-place mark in the C Final after losing the lead in the final lengths to UCF.  Stanford, Yale, and Texas finished in the Top 3 of the Team Standings.  That will bring the rowing season to an end.

Regionals concluded for Track and Field in Jacksonville over the weekend, and 11 Hoos punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene in one week.   HERE you can find a report on Jenny Schilling and Annika Kelly finding their way into the mix.  As expected, Margot Appleton and Celia Rifaterra punched their way through after strong prelminary starts, Rifaterra in the High Jump and Appleton (the only Wahoo competing in two events), in the 1500m and 5000m.  Carly Tarentino and Estel Valeanu round out the competitors for the Cavalier Women, in the High Jump and Discuss respectively.  On the Men’s side, Gary Martin (1500m), Alex Sherman (400m Hurdles), Will Daley (5000m), Justin Wachtel (5000m) and Keyandre Davis (in the Hammer Throw), fill out the Virginia delegation headed to Oregon beginning June 11th.

Finally, the US National Championships begin for members of the Virginia Swim and Dive team tomorrow, June third, in Indianapolis, Indiana.   27 Cavaliers are due to compete (18 women and nine men), will be competing in the Long-Course event with a place at the World Championships on the line.  That runs Tuesday through Saturday, and we will have updates for you when we get them.
