CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – City Council tonight has a public hearing considering increases in the water, wastewater, and natural gas utility rates.
The agenda item reads, “The need for investment in City utility systems is not without cost, but the City’s utility rates must also be balanced with the need for continued affordability for our customers.”

The proposal Council will hear about tonight will increase the water rate to $86.99 per 1000 cubic feet of water, $95.29 per 1000 cubic feet of wastewater, and $94.72 cubic feet of natural gas. The agenda item says the bill increases for average usage is $6.55 for water, $3.60 for wastewater, and $2.69 for natural gas. The total increase is $12.84, or 8.45%, to a total of $164.82.
